Description

My Birdhouse for :iconchildrensillustrator:'s monthly topic.

This idea instantly came to me during the voting, so I was very excited when *birdhouse* became topic of the month.

Well, I had an idea, yet I was stuck with the actual drawing. :stupidme:
It is so hard to draw "wrong" perspective when you've been learned for 2 years how to do it right. But after tens of sketches, it started to take shape. :phew:

This work is made on watercolor paper(24*32cm) with pencils and pigment liners, because I was expecting to color it with watercolors. Yet the circumstances changed a little, and I've spent some time on it in Photoshop.

Anyway, I've submit this work to Traditional Art, as biggest part was done by hand.

enjoy :boogie:

I wanted to critique this piece because I appreciate everything about it. Let me start with the composition; the placement of the subject (the top of the roof vs the part of the tree it rests on) gives the idea of height, i.e., it appears to be up in a tree....the incorporation of the house with the branch itself creates stability, very nice idea.
I also appreciate the cross-section of the house, exposing the interior, and more than that we are privy to the goings on inside, and there the idea of stability continues.
You captured a day in the life of this Dear Bird Family as if it were ongoing, not a 'portrait' if you will, but a snapshot, just a brief moment. The contrast of the father reading and the mother rushing is very complimentary, like blue and orange they go together because they are opposite.
Your use of line is exemplary, the detail of their belongings is immaculate. The addition of leaves to the structure of the house give the feel of permanence.
An overall delightful piece, it's always nice to have something that draws you into a word of miniature wonder! Bravo!!
